Joined NWCL to get the chance to work with an agile, focused team.
NWCL is a real team. We all enjoy our work and enjoy working together. There is a shared focus here on providing high-quality legal services to our clients. There is an overused expression in business management about the importance of “getting everyone in your boat rowing in the same direction”—but it’s true! And our clients benefit from that every day.
I appreciate working with clients that are passionate about what they do.
My clients are talented people who work in a variety of industries. They are ready to start or grow their business, or perhaps sell it and move on to their next project. I provide personalized, efficient services and practical legal guidance that help them succeed. Doing so in an efficient, pleasant manner means that they can get back to doing what they do best.
I’ve worked with students, entrepreneurs, owners and aspiring entrepreneurs from all walks of life, and from all across the country
The most satisfying part of my work is being a “value add” to my clients—someone they can trust to do the job right. We operate in a highly specialized economy that requires a network of skilled professionals to help us navigate our personal and professional lives. Many of my clients acquired technical skills over years of focused dedication and perseverance. I don’t expect them to know the ins and outs of corporate law—that’s what we’re here for.
Sports can be a unifying force in the world that add joy and meaning to our lives. I value the inclusivity of sports. The barriers to entry are extremely low: anyone at any age can decide they’re a fan of a sport, athlete or team located anywhere in the world, no questions asked.
There are countless ways for people to engage in sports and athletics—from sold out stadiums to your local yoga studio, there are countless ways businesses operate in this space. Often when my sports law work comes up in conversation, someone will say “oh, I don’t like sports.” But within five minutes they’re telling me about how much fun they had at a Thorns game, or how they met their partner in spin class, or sharing details of their upcoming ski trip. I think what they mean to say is, “I have strong opinions about sports.” Well, join the club!
If I were not an attorney, I would be non-fiction writer.
I love reading from a variety of sources and finding connections and commonalities among different fields of study. I drift toward US legal history—I am a lawyer after all! Lately I’ve been enjoying the writings of Ted Sorensen. But I also appreciate non-legal writers like Walter Isaacson, who explain science and technology without being reductive. And I’m equally curious about what music critic Rob Harvilla has to say about Lisa Loeb. So, I’m admittedly all over the place with my personal reading, but maybe that’s the way it should be. We’re lucky to live in a time where opportunities to learn and explore are endless. One aspect of practicing corporate law that I enjoy most is learning about my clients and the incredible work they do. This shapes my legal advice for each client, but for someone who’s naturally curious about what others are up to, it’s also just really fun.
